Wear Your Bayou Best for the 2022 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend with a runDisney Style DIY!
It’s going to be the Ultimate Princess Celebration during this year’s Disney Princess Enchanted 10K presented by CORKCICLE as we look to celebrate the hard-working and determined princess, Tiana, from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. Taking inspiration from her wedding day attire, we’ve put together a running skirt DIY, perfect accessory for achieving your dreams during race weekend.
Follow the below tutorial to make yours:
Supplies
- Light Yellow/Cream Colored Tulle (either on spools, or by the yard)
- Thick Light Green Ribbon
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape
- Dark Green and White Felt Sheets
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Safety Pin
Instructions
- Measure your waist. Add an additional 48 inches to the measurement (to allow room for tying skirt in the back) and cut your ribbon accordingly.
- Measure the length from your waist to where you would like your tutu to fall. Then double that measurement.
- Cut strips of tulle 6 inches wide by however long you previously measured (and doubled) for the skirt length. The more strips cut, the fuller and fluffier your skirt will be!
- Measure the length from your waist to where you would like your ribbon “petals” to fall on top of the tulle skirt. Then double that measurement.
- Cut strips of ribbon by however long you previously measured (and doubled.)
- Take your cut ribbon and wrap around your waist once more, finding where the two pieces come together at your back. Tie a knot at this point on both ribbon ends – you will tie your tulle to the ribbon between those knots.
- Now it’s time to start tying your tulle! Grab two to three strips of tulle and fold them in half, slipping the folded part underneath the ribbon. Take the two long sides of the tulle and bring them up through the fold and pull tight. Then slide the tied tulle all the way to the left side of the ribbon and continue tying tulle. Once all your tulle is tied, you can look to trim the bottom if desired.
- Next, it’s time to start tying your ribbon “petals” on top of the tulle. Repeat the same process used for tying your tulle with your ribbon strips, spacing out your ribbon placement by tying them every 2-3 tulle strips.
- To give your ribbons more of a petal effect, fold your ribbon end in half and cut the corners off in a diagonal, giving the ribbon a pointed end.
- Complete your Princess Tiana-inspired look by crafting a felt flower to attach to your tulle skirt.
- Start by cutting your green and white felt squares into smaller strips. You will need two different sizes of strips, to give a variation in petal and leaf sizes. From there, fold your small felt strips in half lengthways, cutting a circular shape to form the petals and leaves.
- Taking your hot glue gun, fold the bottom two corners of each leaf and petal and gluing them in the middle.
- To make the flower shape, glue the petals together in a circle, layering on top of one another and securing with hot glue. Repeat this process to add the petals to the edges.
- Finally, glue a small strip of felt to the bottom of the flower and glue your safety pin to it. Now you can easily secure and remove the flower to your race day look!
