Ever feel like your stomach is a bit tangled before a big race? Pre-race jitters happen to all of us! If your nerves are getting in the way of eating a proper pre-race snack, you’ll need something easy on the stomach. Fruit leathers are easy to make at home and a fun activity to have the kids join in on! Make them with one simple ingredient – GoGo squeeZ Applesauce – and store away for a healthy treat or pre-race snack! As a Dietitian and mom, I love having a treat like this for my kids. Store bought versions usually contain added sugars and some skip using actual real fruit all together! With this homemade version, your family will be singing “Mother knows best!”
Make it here:
UnTangled Fruit Roll Ups
Ingredients
- 8 Big GoGo squeeZ Amazing Apple Pouches
Directions
- Preheat oven to 200 F.
- Prepare a silicone baking mat by laying it flat over a baking sheet (make sure it has a rim).
- Squeeze applesauce pouches onto baking mat and spread into an even flat layer about 1/8-inch-thick using a spatula or butter knife.
- Place into oven for 3 (or more) hours to dehydrate, then remove and allow to completely cool. Tip: Your oven may have a “dehydrate” option you can choose. Fruit leather will be done when you can place a clean finger onto the top of the leather and being firm to touch.
- When done, remove from oven safely and gently peel the fruit leather from the baking mat starting with one corner until the whole sheet of fruit leather is removed. Place directly onto a sheet of parchment paper.
- Using clean kitchen scissors, cut into 2-inch strips.
- Roll each strip into a cylinder and fasten shut with poultry string.
- Fruit leather keeps 2 weeks in an airtight glass food storage container stored in a dark cool place.
- Enjoy as part of a pre-workout snack or for a healthy treat on the go!
