runDisney Charity Spotlight: The YMCA

The YMCA is the celebrated charity of the 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend presented by HONDA.

As the President and CEO of the Anaheim Family YMCA, I am honored to share the life changing benefits that our organization brings to the community and why our mission is so vital. The YMCA is more than just a gym or a place for kids to play sports; it is a cornerstone of community well-being and development.

My connection to the Y began in 1984, and with each year, my passion for this incredible organization grows even stronger. As I look back on the past year, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the impact we’ve had on the lives of so many people here in Anaheim. It’s a true honor to be part of this dynamic organization and to see firsthand how our programs help strengthen families, empower youth, and support the well-being of our entire community.

Since 1911, the Anaheim Family YMCA has believed in the power of bringing people together. Whether it’s through physical activity, youth development, or family programs, we’re committed to building healthy, thriving communities where everyone, regardless of their background or financial situation, can lead a better life.

No child or person is ever turned away due to the inability to pay for a program. Through the generosity of our donors and investors, we raise funds year-round to support our “We Build People” annual campaign which aids vulnerable families who wish to participate in Y programs.

The Anaheim Family YMCA is an anchor organization in Orange County, thanks to the vital programs we offer to everyone and the dedicated staff and volunteers who lead them. Together, we served over 7.8 million meals to Anaheim students and taught lifesaving skills of swimming to over 4,600 participants. We have provided sports programs to over 5,000 youth in one year. These programs instill important values such as discipline, respect, and perseverance, which are essential for success both on and off the field.

In addition to physical fitness, we believe in the importance of workforce development. Our Avanza program, originally launched in partnership with Disneyland Resort in 2019, helps underserved youth develop essential soft skills and creates career pathways. We are proud to see how this program is providing students with the tools they need to succeed in their education and thrive in today’s competitive job market.

This year, we’ve made important strides in expanding our programs and services. With Phase 2 of our new YMCA Community Complex set to open in 2025, we are excited about the future and the additional opportunities it will bring to the community.

Our YMCA board of directors are committed to being part of this vibrant community and are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. I am deeply grateful for the Y board of directors’ unwavering support and dedication to building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

Before we run off…. I am very humbled for the Anaheim Family YMCA to be honored as the Celebrated Charity for the 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. I am truly looking forward to the race weekend with all of you. We couldn’t do it without our amazing investors, board, volunteers, staff and friends of the Y, who relentlessly support the Y. Have a wonderful Disneyland Half Marathon weekend experience!
