Celebrated Charity Spotlight – Outrun Hunger with Second Harvest Food Bank
We live in such a food-rich community in Central Florida, but still 1 in 6 of our neighbors don’t know where their next meal is going to come from. This is where Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida comes into play. We are the largest network of food assistance in Central Florida, collecting as much food as possible, having volunteers sort through the food at our facility, and then distributing it to more than 550 feeding partners across our 6 county service network.
Through this network of feeding partners, we are distributing enough food to feed 48,000 people a day! These are low-income families who are working hard to make ends meet, but at the end of the day may have to make a tough decision like putting food on the table, or buying medication for a child when they get sick. We don’t want anyone to have to make a decision like that.
Luckily Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida has incredible community partners that help us feed as many people as possible in Central Florida and run Disney is one of these partners. As the celebrated charity of the 2017 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Second Harvest Food Bank was able to provide more than 280,000 meals to our neighbors in need last year alone! This weekend makes such an incredible impact on our community.
We’re so excited to be a part of the event again this year! If you’re joining for the 2018 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, make sure you come say hi to us at the run Disney Health & Fitness Expo! We’ll also see you at the start line of all the races, and will be collecting any extra food from the post-race snack boxes after the Half Marathon to be distributed to those in our community who need it most.
On behalf of our neighbors in need, thank you to every volunteer, runner, and guest and especially run Disney for supporting Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s mission and helping change lives in our community. We think you all are the ultimate hunger heroes!
